Somalia’s Ministry of Defence announced that a joint operation by the Somali National Army and Turkish Naval Forces successfully freed the hijacked MV LATUF ship. The vessel had been seized by pirates off the coast of Eyl district in the Nugaal region.

According to the ministry, the 10-day operation resulted in the destruction of four pirate boats and the deaths of 14 pirates. The forces regained full control of the MV LATUF, which is now continuing its journey safely.

The Ministry of Defence stated that the operation was conducted under the defence cooperation agreement between Somalia and Turkey. It also warned that groups involved in piracy will face legal consequences.

The ministry praised the Somali and Turkish forces for their efforts in carrying out the operation.
