The Turkish Navy participated in an operation to free the MV LATUF, a ship hijacked by pirates near the Eyl district in Somalia's Nugaal region. The joint mission involved Somali National Army forces and Turkish troops.
Somalia’s Ministry of Defence reported that the 10-day operation destroyed four pirate boats and killed 14 pirates. The MV LATUF was recovered and is continuing its journey safely.
The ministry added that the operation was conducted under the defence cooperation agreement between Somalia and Turkey.
