Turkey's parliament has approved a two-year extension of its military mission in Somalia, signaling the continued security and defense cooperation between the two countries.

The decision allows Turkish forces to continue training and building the capacity of Somalia's armed forces, while also strengthening collaboration in counterterrorism efforts and boosting the capabilities of security institutions.

Turkey has long been one of Somalia's closest allies, playing a prominent role in military training, development projects, healthcare, education, and economic infrastructure. The TURKSOM military training center in Mogadishu has trained thousands of Somali soldiers since it opened.

Turkish officials said the mission extension is part of efforts to support peace, stability, and security in Somalia and the wider Horn of Africa region.

So far, Somalia's federal government has not issued an official statement regarding the Turkish parliament's new decision.
