Somalia says airstrikes in Middle Shabelle kill nearly 30 Al-Shabaab fighters
Mogadishu – Somalia’s federal government says its national army, backed by international partners, carried out airstrikes targeting Al-Shabaab positions in the Middle Shabelle region.
In a statement from the Ministry of Defence, the government said the operation hit areas where the group was present, killing nearly 30 Al-Shabaab fighters.
The government added that the strikes destroyed vehicles, motorcycles, weapons and military equipment used by the group.
The Defence Ministry said the airstrikes are part of ongoing operations to weaken Al-Shabaab and prevent planned attacks.
Al-Shabaab has not yet commented on the government’s claim, and there are no independent sources to confirm the casualty figures in the statement.
In recent years, Somalia has stepped up military operations against Al-Shabaab with support from international partners, including airstrikes and intelligence assistance.
