Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said an investigation is underway into the unexpected influx of migrants in July in Ceuta, a small Spanish territory in North Africa. He condemned false reports spread by far-right groups internationally that misrepresented the situation.

Sánchez said at least 70,000 people crossed from Morocco into Ceuta over several days, triggering warnings about migrants across Europe. He rejected claims that Spanish intelligence agencies found any evidence linking the Moroccan government to the incident.

The prime minister added that false reports claiming migrants arriving in Ceuta could not be returned to Morocco came from human traffickers. He called for cooperation with Morocco to resolve the crisis and announced an increase in financial aid of 168 million euros to support Ceuta.
