Turkey’s Foreign Ministry in Ankara summoned Ukraine’s ambassador following two attacks on Turkish ships in the Black Sea, AFP reported Saturday.

The ministry said it discussed the incidents with Ambassador Naryman Dzhelialo and emphasized the need to protect the safety of people, property, maritime traffic, and the Black Sea environment.

The attacks occurred after the Lider Bordo Mavi ship was hit by a missile on Wednesday while leaving the Russian port of Tuapse. The Lider Kocatepe ship was also attacked by a drone as it moved to assist the first vessel.

Turkey has recently called for an end to attacks on commercial ships in the Black Sea amid escalating strikes between Ukraine and Russia targeting each other’s export revenues.
