Mogadishu – 14 July 2026

The dispute between Somalia's Federal Government and Puntland has entered a new phase, after Puntland said it has suspended some operations of aid agencies working in its territories.

Puntland's Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management said the move was taken due to complaints about how aid is managed and distributed. Puntland also said its share of international donations is too small, and it wants the distribution system to be reviewed.

The Puntland government called for humanitarian aid to be based on the needs of the people, and to be efficient, fair, and free from political considerations.

Political analysts say this dispute highlights the need for dialogue and cooperation between the Federal Government, regional states, and aid agencies, to ensure donations reach those most in need.

So far, Somalia's Federal Government has not issued an official response to the allegations made by Puntland.
