Somali disciplinary forces blocked the road near the Central Prison in Mogadishu today, with about 500 soldiers protesting over unpaid salaries for two years. They demanded that the federal government address their grievances.
One protesting soldier said they have worked for a long time without receiving their rights and that their action was meant to make their voices heard. Another soldier said the government had previously made promises to the forces but failed to fulfill them. They want their rights respected.
This is the second protest by disciplinary forces raising concerns about working conditions and unpaid rights. The Somali government has not yet commented on the situation.
