The United Nations has revealed that the city of Bosaso in Puntland is a regular transit point used by an international network to transfer weapons, military equipment, and foreign fighters to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan. A report by the UN Independent Fact-Finding Committee stated that this network connects the United Arab Emirates, Chad, southeastern Libya, and Puntland.
The committee said locations in Chad, Libya, and Puntland serve as logistics and transit centers for moving arms, personnel, and military supplies destined for RSF-controlled areas. Bosaso was described as a key logistics hub and transit route used by private companies, intermediaries, and individuals operating in several countries, including Somalia.
The report also noted that large cargo planes regularly linked Bosaso with Kufra and Benghazi in Libya and Chad, from where personnel and cargo were forwarded into Sudan. It highlighted the significant role of Colombian fighters, numbering between 350 and 2,000, in supporting the RSF network by carrying out military technical tasks such as drone operations and troop training.
The UN committee said it received no effective response from the Somali government regarding activities conducted on its territory. However, the federal government stated it takes the report’s findings seriously. Sources familiar with the matter said Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni was aware of and permitted Bosaso to be used as a logistics center to supply the RSF.
