Hargeisa — The Somaliland government has unveiled a large-scale recruitment plan to fill positions left vacant by civil servants retiring in 2026. President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi Irro inaugurated a ceremony on Sunday introducing the new employees who will replace those retiring.

The Sanaag region has been allocated 15% of the new hires, while Sahil and Sool each received 10%. The president emphasized that government and military workers are entitled to salaries and pensions under Somaliland law.

“Retirement is not the end of a worker’s value and dignity, but a stage where the government is responsible for caring for long-serving employees,” President Irro said. He praised the Pension and Compensation Agency for its efforts and ordered ministries and government agencies to fully cooperate with the agency.

This plan marks a new phase in public sector recruitment in Somaliland, with a new generation of workers set to replace those retiring this year after many years of service.
