President of Somaliland Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi Irro has departed Hargeisa for an official visit to the United States, with a stopover in the United Arab Emirates, the Somaliland presidency announced on Thursday.
This marks Irro’s first trip to the US since taking office. The presidency stated that the president will meet with officials and key stakeholders to represent the voice, interests, and aspirations of the Somaliland people.
The presidency added that the visit reflects Somaliland’s confident, responsible, and national vision in engaging with the international community. It also signals readiness for strategic cooperation based on shared interests.
Irro’s visit comes as Somaliland seeks international recognition and aims to strengthen ties with countries and global organizations. Somaliland declared independence in 1991 but has yet to gain widespread international recognition.
