Heavy flooding has left nearly 15 people missing in a popular area of Grand Canyon National Park. The National Park Service said the floods occurred in Bright Angel Canyon and Phantom Ranch on Saturday.

The Park Service is working with Arizona authorities on evacuation and search efforts for those still missing. Earlier reports said more than 20 people were missing, but that number has been revised down.

The flooding began around 2:30 p.m. Saturday, caused by rain on the Kaibab Plateau. By Sunday morning, 62 people had been evacuated, with more evacuations planned.

The Park Service warned that heavy rain and storms could continue through Monday, increasing the risk of further flooding, rockfalls, and changes to roads and rivers.
