The United Nations has revealed that Bosaso in Puntland serves as a regular transit point for an international network moving weapons, military equipment, and foreign fighters to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) fighting in Sudan. A new report by the UN’s independent fact-finding committee said Bosaso is used as a logistics center and a route for arms and military supplies to RSF-controlled areas.
The committee said the network involves countries including the United Arab Emirates, Chad, southeastern Libya, and Puntland. Witnesses interviewed by the UN described a military base in Bosaso used by contractors and foreign fighters. Large cargo planes reportedly connected Bosaso with Kufra, Benghazi, and Chad to transport personnel and weapons into Sudan.
The UN report did not confirm direct involvement by the Puntland or Somali federal governments but said private companies and individuals operating in Somalia facilitated parts of the network. The Somali federal government said it takes the report seriously and will not allow its territory to be used for military operations in Sudan. Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni is reported to have been aware of and approved the use of Bosaso as a logistics hub.
