Trump Proposes Renaming Strait of Hormuz as Trump Strait
US President Donald Trump has suggested renaming the Strait of Hormuz after himself. He claimed that the United States controls the waterway despite daily attacks by Iranian forces. Trump posted on social media that since the strait is now under American control, it should be called the Trump Strait.
This statement came a day after the US carried out strikes in Iran that killed four people, including two children, at a wedding in the southern city of Sirik. Iran responded by firing on US bases in the region.
Saudi Arabia also accused Iran of attacking an oil tanker, killing two people. The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), part of the British naval forces, reported ongoing attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Trump has previously called the strait "American territory" and said he has succeeded in controlling the area, although the conflict that began earlier this year continues.
